I can't remember not knowing what a Zamboni is. What is it about this cleaning machine?

Zamboni: it rolls off the tongue like a Buddhist chant. Zamboni: a wonderful, magical, frivolous word. Rich with vowels, consonants, pleasurable mouth contortions, it reads like a pasta dish: Zamboni Alfredo, perhaps. Linguistic and spiritual bliss: Zen and the Art of Zamboni Maintenance. It's easy to get carried away.
But ice making is serious business.
Zamboni® is the registered trademark name for the vehicle used to scrape and resurface the ice at ice rink venues. It's not like a fast car-- with top speed at nine miles per hour, the machine moves more like a slow-moving tractor on ice.
I have always wanted to drive the Zamboni. Give me the choice of a Porsche, a Mustang, or the Zamboni and I'd have to say that I'd opt for the multi-purpose ice resurfacing machine. It impresses the chicks and the dudes--for a price. The machines are pretty damn expensive-- a new one will cost you about $60,000.
